Reference rates

Where the major currencies stand

Loading the latest reference rates… Source: European Central Bank, euro foreign exchange reference rates. GBP/USD, USD/JPY and USD/CHF are calculated from them. Published once a day — these are not live prices.

Inside the members’ area every market has its own chart, on every timeframe, with the monthly, weekly and daily levels drawn.

What we follow

The markets, and what a learner watches in each

  • Currency pairs

    Forex

The largest market in the world, open around the clock from Monday to Friday. Currencies move on interest rates, economic data and the mood of the day — and they respect levels built over months and years.

    • Major pairs such as EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY
    • Central-bank decisions and inflation data
    • The hand-over between the Asian, European and American sessions
  • Baskets of leading shares

    Indices

An index shows the direction of a whole market in one chart. Indices trend for long stretches and turn sharply, which makes structure — the sequence of highs and lows — the first thing to read.

    • The main American, European and Asian indices
    • Earnings seasons and interest-rate expectations
    • The opening hour of the cash session
  • Gold, oil and more

    Commodities

Raw materials answer to supply, demand and the strength of the dollar. Gold in particular is watched by traders everywhere, and its round numbers and old highs are levels the whole market sees.

    • Gold and silver
    • Crude oil
    • Inventory reports and the dollar
  • Digital assets

    Crypto

Open every hour of every day, and capable of moving further and faster than any other market here. The same reading of candles and levels applies — with more room left for the unexpected.

    • Bitcoin, Ethereum and other large assets
    • Weekend trading, when other markets are closed
    • Wide swings, and what they mean for risk
  • Selected shares

    Stocks

Single companies carry their own stories: results, products and news. A share is read against its own levels and against the index it belongs to.

    • Large, widely followed companies
    • Earnings dates and gaps at the open
    • The stock against its index

The trading day

Three sessions, one continuous market

  1. Asia

The trading day begins in the Pacific and Tokyo. Often quieter — the range set here is what the next sessions test.

  2. Europe

London brings the day’s first real volume. Many of the day’s directions are decided in these hours.

  3. America

New York overlaps with Europe for a few hours, the busiest stretch of the day, and then carries the market to its close.

Members see six world clocks in the workspace, adjusted for daylight saving, with the time left until each market opens.
